HD = high definition
PVR = personal video recorder
SD = normal standard definition TV
STB = Set Top Box
ISP = I nternet Service Provider
LAN = Local Area Network
WIFI = Wireless LAN
FTA = Free To Air or free to view

JSAT Pi - a full blown HDMI media center running XBMC in a small case with free IPTV
IPTV = TV via the Internet (no satellite dish required)
types of HD or DVB-S2 TV
1080i, 7201, 576i, 480i also 3D TV normally in 1080i
Audio normally either AC3 or MPEG1
type of SD or DVB-S TV
PAL, SECAM, NTSC
Audio normally MPEG 1
There are three ways to watch all these satellite TV channels. (1) the most popular way is by a move dish where the dish moves over all the satellites listed here or (2) another popular way by using a fixed dish which is a dish fixed on one or more of the satellites listed here. Either way a dish is required to get the signals from the satellite (3) With a JSAT Pi media center powered by XBMC that provides free IPTV from most countries world wide.
NOT all dishes provide the same solutions / channels. Rule of thumb is, bigger is better so the bigger the dish the better the reception and also the bigger the dish is it costs more. So this is why we do not offer small cheap charlie dishes as you want to watch TV not static right?
A rule of thumb:
1. SD or standard definition boxes can NOT be used to view HD or high definition TV channels. But a HD set top box like all the ones listed on this web site can see 3DTV, HDTV and SDTV.
2. A HD set top box can not be used on a HD ready TV via HDMI as the HD Ready TV has the wrong HDMI audio spec for newer HD TV specification, so it can only be used by the old A/V cables.
3. All the HD set top boxes we sell have a personal video recorder (PVR) and media players built in - see the models wiki / manual for the how to use details.
Small glossary of terms and hints

What is satellite Television?
Instead of watching local TV over the air like you are used to or via a hard wired cable into your TV, satellite TV is television provided via a direct link to the satellite 32,000 km out in space. Currently here in Thailand we have access to over 2,400 TV channels that are both encrypted (payTV) and free to air (FTA) in all the worlds languages direct off 32 different satellite to your home.
What is satellite Radio?
Instead of listening to your local radio station in your car or at home, satellite radio provides you with live radio from all over the world. We have special satellite radios in ours cars and we can listen to radio from Australia, USA, UK and all over the world as we drive all over Thailand. I love listening to Fox News Radio as I drive all over the place and listening to all the UK & Australian sport on ABC 2 from Sydney. All satellite TV systems also include satellite radio for you to listen to. There are over 400 radio station via our typical satellite TV move dish system receivers you can enjoy.
Can I see a demo satellite TV and Radio system working?
Yes , you can at anytime (except Sundays as we are closed) simply call the Bangkok office on 02.714.3551 and arrange to pop over for a demo. We have many systems set up in the office from small condo units through to move systems. It is a good idea to write down a list of questions to ask us before you come to ensure we give you all the information you require.
What is in a satellite package?
Here at JSAT tv we sell the whole system installed and working not just the bits and pieces that go to make a system. A typical JSAT tv system includes all the hardware, all the software in the Set Top Box pre-installed and setup for you, the cabling, dish set up and installation and some training! So we provide the whole package, so what you see for a 'price' is what you get. As you may not be aware here in Thailand it is typical for you to buy what you think is the entire system only to learn it is all PLUS PLUS PLUS, so this is why we here at JSAT tv give you the FINAL / TOTAL price for the package on a proper Purchase Order form before we even install the system.
What is JSAT.tv's most popular satellite TV package & why?
The most popular package is a the 1.65m fixed dish system . We sell more of these for domestic dwellings and condos than anything else. The reason why is quite simple. Many people do not want the hassle of moving dishes any more, they just want to sit down, relax and turn the system on and it works, period.
Can I have a second, third or forth set top box in my house?
Yes you can have as many as your budget will allow. In most cases we install two to three set top boxes or any number can be added later but of course this costs more.
What are the C & Ku Bands I keep reading about?
There are two parts or two bands that we use here in Thailand to receive satellite TV and satellite Radio. They are the "C" Band or low band and the "Ku" band or high band. The main difference to you as the viewer is what happens with the weather and the dish size! Really, the weather will effect the high band or "Ku" band, while even in bad rain storms here in Thailand the low band or "C" band is rarely effected by the weather. We provide a near real time radar maps of Thailand on this web site so help you with any of these issues. Typically the big black dishes you see are on the "C" band and the small dishes are on the "Ku" band. Here at JSAT tv we provide systems that have both the "C" and "Ku" bands on one dish however the C band proves to be the most popular system.
We are in a Condo can we still get satellite tv?
Sure you can but there are a few things to remember. Typically in a condo you will need to put the dish on the roof of the condo. This is will require permission from the condo management to do this, so please check with them first before you call us. If they will NOT allow you to do this then we can provide a small dish "Ku" band solution for you in most cases but the channels while FREE are limited. See the CondoTV package for this purpose. If you can not install a dish consider the JSAT MX or JSAT media center with free IPTV
We brought a satellite system over 5 years ago and it worked great but where have all the channels gone?
This is a question we love at JSAT.tv as this is where over 5% of our work comes from. Over the last 10 years the satellite TV channels have changed from the old Analog TV system to the new Digital MPEG 2 format and are now changing to the new DVB-S2 / MPEG 4 (HD) format. In most cases we can recycle your old system and revamp it into a full working system on the C Band for minimal cost. We must have done this well over 1,000 times in the last few years.
Simply click on the 'call out form' and fax it back to us or email it to us (info@jsat.tv) and we will arrange the upgrade for you. Now in 2012 we see many of the new HD (480i,576i,720i,1080i) channels arriving, and yes we have solutions for these too.

We brought a fixed dish - can we move it now?
With a fixed dish you are limited to the channels on that satellite the dish is fixed to. Make sure that you really want the satellite you choose, as a fixed dish does not offer the many viewing options that a move dish does. By this I mean if you are tired of what you are watching with a fixed dish you can not move it easily by yourself to another satellite and watch the channels on there. Why - simple it is fixed at one position! So if you get sick and tired of your fixed dish and want to change satellites, simply let us know and we can move it for you. If you are a JSAT customer, remember you choose the satellite you wanted at the time, so there is a cost involved in moving the dish and setting up the set top box. Having said this a fixed dish is ideal if you do not want to surf the satellites, and just turn the system on and the satellite is there and you do not have to move your dish to watch a certain free to view programme. We seem to be selling more and more fixed dish system for this very reason.
We moved into a condo/house that has an old dish and what do we do?
Simple. Just click on our 'call out form' or click on the upgrade icon above , fill it out and fax or email back to us and one of our engineers will come on-site and do a system survey for you. They will then suggest what can be done with it, or how to make changes to it so you can enjoy satellite TV and satellite radio.
Can I run my DVD and your satellite system together?
Yes you can and if you have a spare AV or HDMI input on the DVD you can plug the satellitereceiver into here so you can enjoy Dolby Stereo. (as a side note here it seems to JSAT tv that many users out there have 1st rate TV and surround sound kit but do not know how to use it. Please note it is not for our staff to teach you how to use your TV or DVD player but we are happy to help show you how to watch your satellite system on it) Also old HD TVs (pre-2010) are HD ready, not real HD and this is not an issue with our set top boxes, it is an issue with what your TV will or will not do..
What warrantee do I get from JSAT.tv
All hardware is guaranteed for 3 months. After this period if there is a need for any repair at all there will be a cost associated with the repair.. All and any firmware (software in your set top box) has none (no warranty from JSAT.tv at all), however if there is a major firmware change within 3 months of the purchase of your system [no one else does this - check it out], we will do the manufacturers upgrade for free if there is one, however in some cases you might need to bring your set top box to our offices or simply send them to us via EMS. After this 3 month period all firmware upgrades will incur a cost. See the upgrades section for more details. Note if your set top box has to go back to the factory for any reason allow 10-21 working days. For the record we do not provide free lifetime support for hardware or software upgrades. having said that we still support today and upgrade systems from over 8 years ago ..
How much does JSAT tv charge per month?
NOTHING! Once you purchase a satellite TV system from JSAT tv you own the system outright, so you do not pay us any monthly fee's to watch the TV or listen to the radio on your free to air system, this is why it is called a free to air or a free to view system. You own the system, you control it, JSAT tv is NOT a cable TV operator so why would we charge you. Be careful as there are a number of local satellite TV system companies who will charge you for free TV systems so please be cautious.
What TV channels do JSAT tv provide?
NONE and this is important you understand this. JSAT tv is NOT a cable TV operator nor a provider of payTV channels like a cable TV operator, so we do not sell you content or TV channels period! JSAT tv simply sells you the satellite TV and satellite radio equipment to watch the satellite TV or listen to the radio programs you as the owner of the satellite equipment want to watch at the time of your purchase. To find out what you can watch please see the satellite list or packages on the menu above.
Do the satellite/channels change at all?
Yes they change every day of the week. As JSAT tv is NOT a cable TV operator (we do not sell you TV channels we sell you satellite TV equipment to watch TV or listen to the radio) we can not guarantee what you are seeing today will be there tomorrow. This is why in the WIKI links you will receive from JSAT tv will include a section on how to add more channels to your set top box. Important you remember this part: if you are watching say American TV today and it goes off satellite or encrypts tomorrow, get upset at American TV not JSAT tv (smile).
Where do you install satellite TV?
As of 01JUNE2013 we only install systems in the greater Bangkok area.
So can I still buy equipment from you?
Yes you can and we will courier it to you in your location outside of Bangkok

NOTHING! and it is important you understand this. Free is free! The JSAT Pi is a full blown Media Center with FREE IPTV. As we do not provide these IPTV plugins (100's of them) we can not charge anything for them like other companies do. So you pay nothing for the IPTV it is free and free is free.
Can I have more than 1 JSAT Pi on my system
Yes you can have as many JSAT Pi's on you system as you wish. Here we use one in the car from time to time powered by an iPhone car adaptor, and three in the house in the lounge & kids rooms
What sort of TV do I need for the JSAT Pi?
A normal HDTV or 3DTV is the best although all sorts are
supported. A/V and HDMI output provided.
Can I see a JSAT Pi running?
Yes you can - they run 24/7 in our offices so feel free to pop by and look at them or see the screen dumps in our gallery. Screen dumps are just that, images of what we watch not what we say but what is real.
I just installed a JSAT Pi and it’s slow with 100% CPU usage
This is temporary and is because when XBMC launches for the first time it must update any plugins that are out of date. This takes CPU as it must download the plugins, unpack them and configure them. You are advised to leave it a couple of minutes before trying to do anything with XBMC. The system will then respond normally after this. You can also disable automatic plugin updating in the future.
JSAT Pi has high CPU usage doing nothing? Why?
The reason for this lies in the fact that the JSAT Pi is doing something. Odds are you have reached this deduction via System > System Info and monitoring the CPU progress bar. This bar must be constantly redrawn as it is changing constantly. This is ironically, what is driving up the CPU usage. For a more fair view of idle cpu usage, you could run the top command via SSH while on the menu screen. Typical CPU usage for this should not exceed 20%, as Dirty Region Rendering is being used.
I’m trying to play a video over RCA / Composite A/V but see no video?
Please ensure that your audio / video settings are configured for analogue output! not HDMI output as is the default.
My system keeps freezing up and then unfreezing. Why?
This could be an issue with the power supply you are using for your JSAT Pi. Ensure you are using at least a 1A micro-USB power adapter with 5v. Symptoms of this also include losing control of your keyboard / mouse or remote. Beware as not all power adaptors supply what they say they do.
Help! Windows only sees around 120MB on my 16gb SD card
That’s because Windows does not recognise the Linux partitions that JSAT Pi uses. However the System Information will not only report the size of your Type 10 SD card it will also show the free space that is left.
What does a Factory Reset do?
Factory Reset will completely reinstall the JSAT Pi (make sure the internet is connected when you do this - which you should not) . Note that this will completely erase the contents of the SD card and the JSAT Pi will no longer work as provided for IPTV.

The JSAT MX Media Center with free IPTV FAQ

What is a JSAT MX?
It is a full blown media center and a complete solution just like the JSAT Pi but has wifi, LAN, remote control, power supply, HDMI Cable, AV cable included, 4x USB inputs for external HDD and other devices if needed, along with a small user manual.
It looks like an Apple TV
Yes it is the same size but does so much more the an ATV will do.
What Operating System does the JSAT MX work on?
It is Andriod based (version 4.2) like the smart phones and tablets but in this case connects direct to your TV
How do I do wifi?
Wifi is in the set up app on the main start up screen unter the settings menu / screen , just connect to your local wifi the same way as you do with your tablet or smart phone.
Can I use a Keyboard and mouse with this JSAT MX?
Yes you can use a wireless or normal keyboard and mouse if you need to.
Will my iPhone, Mac, Tablet, Smart Phone connect to the JSAT MX like the JSAT Pi does?
Yes it will do all these options and allow you use your phone or tablet or another computer to control the JSAT MX
Why when I power off the device and power it back on it just sits there on the A9 or Andriod sign?
They are designed to be always on and to use the remote control to turn it off and on. If you power it off and on at the power switch it will hang (designed to do this so no power spike to the OS) so leave it off for a minute or so and then power on and it will work as normal
How many JSAT MX can I install at my home?
As many as you like there is no box limit, but you may face an internet bandwidth limit with 12 or more boxes installed.
Will the JSAT MX work with my old TV (a CRT TV - not HD flat panel)?
Yes it will and A/V cables provided for this purpose.
